From the Pastor’s Desk:
September 11, 2008
Dear Friend,
It is Homecoming time again
at Skinquarter Baptist church and we are excited about this
special occasion. We just wanted to send you information
on the service schedule so
you could mark you calendar. We do hope you will be able to
join us for this years’ service. Homecoming will be on
October 14.
Since Homecoming service is
so special we have changed service time. We will have an
abbreviated Sunday School and begin Morning Worship at
10:30 AM. Homecoming
meal will be fried chicken (of course) and maybe some
barbecue; plans are still in the works. The home folks are
asked to bring a covered dish so bring something special if
you can, but more importantly bring yourself. True Spirit
will singing in the morning service and again after the
noon meal. This year
Pastor Michael Poole from Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church
will be bringing the message for Homecoming. We think you
will
enjoy hearing Pastor
Poole. We have asked him to come because he is a wonderful
pastor who is doing a great job and he is an exceptional
preacher.
During our service, we will
be paying tribute to Harry and Frances Burke. The Burkes
were part of the Skinquarter family many years ago and often
attended Homecoming as long as they were able. Mr. and Mrs.
Burke have both gone on to be with the Lord but remembered
their church, even in their passing.
We always designate the
Homecoming offering to some special need or project. The
Homecoming offering will be for fellowship hall. We have a
very nice fellowship hall but finishing the flooring is
going to be a major expense. We do not have the figures yet
but we are getting a proposal together and, subject to
church approval, we hope we can soon be able to have the
flooring look as nice as the rest of it.
It is quite an honor to be a
part of the rich tradition and storied history of this
church which has been a beacon of light for 230 years. I
cannot help but
imagine how many lives have
been touched by Skinquarter Baptist Church in all that time.
All the good we have done has been by God’s grace and to Him
goes the glory: Every soul
that has been saved and every life that has been made better
is His work. I once saw a bumper sticker that read, “Not
Perfect,
Just Forgiven!” That
describes Skinquarter Baptist Church. We are all just
pilgrims on a journey toward Home. Homecoming is a great
time to reflect
on where we came from,
where we are, and where we are going in the future. I sure
hope you can be here this year. It won’t be the same without
you.
Yours and His,
Se Larry Davis
